April 2nd - The Room (2003)

What the hell was that?

In all seriousness, my main problem with The Room (or maybe with myself) is that I see the vision behind the very poor execution. Does this show that maybe Tommy had a sense of good storytelling, or does it show that I'm a guy who has tricked himself into seeing things that aren't there because I've watched too many bad movies? Who's to say. What I do know is that this film has a very large dose of misogyny that informs the whole plot, how women are sneaky and conniving, or at least 2/3 of them are (Michelle seems ok). However, it's so difficult to take this seriously because no one in this film talks like a human being.

I don't have a lot to actually say about this, but here's a list of highlights that made me and my friends laugh while watching:

• the establishing shot of the Golden Gate Bridge being split and shown at several different points of the movie
• the other establishing shots of the same locations at the same time of day
• the lingering camera on anyone exiting a room or space
• danny's whole existence as johnny and lisa's friend/son/house twink???
• oh hi mark.

(side note: i was drunk for the first half of this film but i think i would have reacted the same way even sober)
